Atlas of Emotions: A Map for Inner Weather

Map emotion families, triggers, body signals, action urges, and calmer choices.

Emotions are not random. They have triggers, body signals, meanings, action urges, and outcomes. Mapping them helps you intervene earlier. Five useful families Anger: appears around blocked goals, unfairness, boundary violations, or feeling dismissed. Fear: appears around danger, uncertainty, loss, or evaluation. Sadness: appears around loss, disappointment, loneliness, or exhaustion. Disgust: appears around violation, contamination, betrayal, or values conflict. Enjoyment: appears around safety, connection, relief, play, meaning, and beauty. Map one emotion 1. What happened? 2. What did I tell myself it meant? 3. Where did I feel it in the body? 4. What did I want to do immediately? 5. What outcome would that action create? 6. What response would protect my values better? The goal is not to stop emotions. The goal is to understand them early enough that behavior stays chosen. Turn emotion into data Once a day, record three items: the event, the emotion family, and the need underneath it. Anger may point to a crossed boundary. Sadness may point to loss. Fear may point to protection. Joy may point to what should be repeated. What not to do Do not use emotion labels to judge yourself. "I feel envy" is not a character verdict; it may be information about longing, comparison, or an unmet value. Naming is useful only when it creates more choice.
